RETROFIT
EC6+ rigging can be adapted to fit nearly all existing masts and deck hardware. Existing tangs and tipcups (for discontinuous) can be used and fittings made to plug the spreader tip holes for continuous. The spreader tips can be modified to make them fit the continuous rigging perfectly, saving on weight and windage.
In the past 12 months, EC6+ has been fitted to a number of bigger boats, replacing existing rod rigging as it reaches the end of its practical lifespan. The superyacht Ghost recently optimised existing spreaders to accommodate the EC6+ stay, doing away with the weight and windage of the concentional tip cup spreader format. While J-class Ranger comissioned a new set of spreaders for the EC6+ conversion.
These conversions have seen considerable weight savings aloft with EC6+ weighing less than a third of the equivalent in stainless steel rod rigging.
